Because, as Jessica Curry said, “anything is possible regardless of race, class, or gender.” An everyday moment became an extraordinary one…that continues to resonate its power, inspiration, and indelible impact. Parker saw the possibility and promise, the hopes and dreams of herself in this powerful painting of Michelle Obama. Then, Parker walks by Sherald’s portrait of Michelle Obama…and almost passes it. Parker Looks Up follows Parker, along with her baby sister and her mother, and her best friend Gia and Gia’s mother, as they walk the halls of a museum, seeing paintings of everyone and everything from George Washington Carver to Frida Kahlo, exotic flowers to graceful ballerinas. Inspired by this visit, Parker, and her mother, Jessica Curry, tell the story of a young girl and her family, whose trip to a museum becomes an extraordinary moment, in a moving picture book. When a nearby museum-goer snapped a photo of a mesmerized Parker, it became an internet sensation. She saw a queen - one with dynamic self-assurance, regality, beauty, and truth who captured this young girl’s imagination. When Parker Curry came face-to-face with Amy Sherald’s transcendent portrait of First Lady Michelle Obama at the National Portrait Gallery, she didn’t just see the First Lady of the United States. ![]() A visit to Washington, DC’s National Portrait Gallery forever alters Parker Curry’s young life when she views First Lady Michelle Obama’s portrait. ![]() ![]() ![]() How to find a cure has so many interesting variants and the more creative people think about finding a solution to this annoying infiltration parasite symbiont problem, the more interesting plotlines evolve, be it focused on technical, biological, magical, or mental eradication of that nasty mind bugs. Seventeen-year-old Ember Miller is old enough to remember that things weren't always this way. People who get arrested usually don't come back. I found the portrayal of her, as a naked Angelina Jolie, to be rather absurd. They've created a whole new plot about who slept with Grendel's mother, which feels clunky. I never had the sense of his enormous and terrifying strength. He is imagined as a pathetic creature - you feel as if he's being eaten from the inside by maggots. The monster, Grendel, is also rather diminished here. The minute he starts lying, he becomes less interesting. He becomes vulnerable and flawed, and he loses much of his nobility. ![]() ![]() The film changes the very nature of its hero. It's a brave, extraordinary thing, and I was entranced by the spectacle, but I'm afraid it left me cold in a way that the poem - an account of a mythical hero's battle with a terrifying monster - does not. I think it's wonderful that a 3D, computer-generated version of an epic poem set in sixth-century Denmark was made at all. A s someone who spends his life telling stories for children, I can't be sniffy about adapting Beowulf. ![]() Nir indistractable6/6/2023 ![]() ![]() The opposite of traction, distraction is any action that pulls you away from what you plan to do further away from your goals, further away from becoming the kind of person you want to become. ![]() Things that you do with intent, things that move you closer to your values and help you become the kind of person you want to become.
